The first thing modern Koreans do when the new year arrives is to plan for the year ahead. Department stores and stationery shops are crowded with shoppers buying diaries at the end or at the starting of the new year. Diary sales have once dipped due to the increasing number of people using smart phone applications. and as a result, people have complained of eye fatigue after looking at smart phones for so long and are now returning to the analog way of life. With the change people are back to buying diaries to record their daily schedules.

Under economic hardship, there are people who want to set priorities and use diaries. For short memos, people use smartphones, but for organizing schedules, people still prefer the old-fashioned analogue diaries. As a result, diary sales have been rising by 10% annually.

A upcoming new year can always be exciting or scary, depending on what you experienced on the current year. Therefore, Either way, being equipped and prepared for the new year is always smart move. It shows you can be disciplined and in control of your life. We at Hallyupedia suggest a handful goods and items to practice this in the year 2017 with Korean influences in each one of them.

Product 10:

Mr. Babba S Ringnote

Brand: Jstory
Size: 9cm x15cm

  • Collectors will receive 1

Jstory is a fairly new brand to us. There wasn’t a single member within our team who has ever seen or heard of this brand. But when we discovered this moustached character, the usage of the character and its name was very interesting. His name is “Mr. Bappa”.  Bappa #바빠 means “busy” in the Korean language and it’s definitely the predominant keyword to describe the life of young Koreans today. After hours of catching up their academic studies, job hunting and maintaining their social life in such a neo-confucius society, it’s pretty clever to link the word “bappa” with a humanized persona in order to brand a whole new line of stationery products.  It’s simple—yet visual and humorous—yet empathetic to the average Joe and Jane who are just barely trying to make it through their day on a daily basis. Depending on our collectors’ feedback, we might introduce more Mr. Bappa line to our collection. So, keep a lookout.
